16-bit/44.1 kHz: Refers to recording settings for digital audio at a bit depth of 16 and a sample rate of 44.1 kHz.  This is commonly referred to as “CD Quality” and is the recommended minimum recording quality for oral history. [ Audio Glossary ] [ Archive Glossary ]
