DC Offset

DC Offset: This occurs when an outside source causes the mean value of the amplitude of a waveform to be either higher or lower than zero. When normalized, a waveform with no DC offset will be able to maximize its volume, but if affected by DC offset, it will have lost a variable amount of headroom for volume. [ Audio Glossary ]
