Pulse Code Modulation

Pulse Code Modulation: Most portable field recorders and a/d converters utilize a representation called Pulse Code Modulation (PCM) for digital conversion of an uncompressed analog signal. This digital data is then saved as a data file (either .wav or .aif). [ Audio Glossary ]
