Threshold

Threshold: Refers to a level where a signal processor will begin to act on a signal. Thresholds are set at different levels depending on the application, i.e. a high-pass filter would attenuate sounds below a certain threshold. It can be used to screen out background noise. [ Audio Glossary ]
