Audio Interchange File Format

Audio Interchange File Format (AIFF): A relatively uncommon digital audio data file format. The format was developed by Apple Computer. Most portable field recorders record their signals as .wav files. Professional level digital audio editing software packages should include AIFF compatibility however. Both AIFF and .wav files utilize compression; AIFF uses uncompressed pulse code modulation or PCM. [ Audio Glossary ]
