Digital Audio

Digital Audio: Using digital formats, signals, computers, and networks to create and reproduce sound. Digitization allows for easy storage. It also makes it easier to work audio, since digital systems are not limited by time or amplitude as analog sources are–digital audio breaks down sound from a continuous line of audible information into a segmented, digital representation of the line. Users can access and change each bit individually. The higher the quality of a file (the higher the sample rate) the smaller each segment created is and so the closer a file is to the original analog version. [ Audio Glossary ]
